Alec Baldwin and Stephen Baldwin are marking themselves as safe after they were involved in a car accident that “smashed up” Hilaria Baldwin‘s Range Rover.
Within hours of TMZ reporting that the Baldwins’ car smashed into a tree in East Hampton, New York, on Oct. 13, Alec Baldwin took to Instagram to describe the incident in detail.
“This morning, I was in a car accident. A guy cut me off in a truck, a big garbage truck the size of a whale,” the 67-year-old actor said in a video. “To avoid hitting him, I hit a tree. I hit a big, fat tree. It crushed my wife’s car.
“I crushed my wife’s car; I feel bad about that,” he continued. “It’s all fine; I’m fine. My brother’s fine.”
The East Hampton Town Police Department confirmed to USA TODAY that officers responded to the accident on Monday, finding Alec Baldwin had “struck a tree” on the shoulder of the road while trying to avoid a Mack commercial truck registered to a New York-based garbage collection company.Need a news break?
The department reported no injuries and did not issue any tickets, as “the contributing factors to the accident were found to be a reaction to an uninvolved vehicle and the slippery and wet roadway conditions.”
Stephen Baldwin, 59, was in town because the brothers had gone to the Hamptons International Film Festival over the weekend.
Alec Baldwin went on to thank the East Hampton Town Police Department “for coming to my aid,” specifically shouting out Officer Gerken as a “lovely guy.”
The “30 Rock” alum then shifted his focus to wife Hilaria, who was recently eliminated from “Dancing with the Stars.” He said, “I’m going to LA to see my family. Can’t wait,” adding, “Hilaria, I’m very proud of you.”
Hilaria Baldwin also posted her own video to reassure her followers.
“I just want you to know (Alec is) OK. Stephen is OK. Everybody’s OK,” she said in a video posted to Instagram. “No one was hurt, and that is the most important thing. Stephen Baldwin confirms he’s ‘safe and well’
Brother Stephen Baldwin also confirmed he was unharmed in the incident.
“Stephen is doing fine and is grateful no one was injured. He appreciates the concern and he can confirm that he and Alec are both safe and well,” his publicist, James Moore, said in a statement to USA TODAY.
