dq. BREAKING NEWS: Pittsburgh Steelers Legend and All-American Star Passes Away at 89

Beloved Oklahoma Sooners legend and former Steelers lineman leaves behind a legacy that stretched far beyond the gridiron.

Bill Krisher, a standout offensive lineman who made his mark at both the college and pro levels, has passed away at the age of 89. He died on July 29 in Dallas, Texas.

Krisher’s football journey began in Midwest City, Oklahoma, and took flight at the University of Oklahoma, where he became one of the most decorated linemen in the school’s storied history. During his time with the Sooners, he helped power the team to two national titles and earned consensus All-American honors in 1957-a rare combination that underscores just how dominant Krisher was in the trenches. Ask any diehard Oklahoma fan, and there’s a good chance his name comes up when the conversation turns to all-time greats.

In 1958, the Pittsburgh Steelers selected him in the third round of the NFL Draft. His time in Pittsburgh was brief-just one season-but when that chapter closed, Krisher wasn’t done with football. He returned to Oklahoma, completed his degree, and eventually resurfaced on the gridiron with the Dallas Texans of the then-fledgling American Football League.

And that’s where Krisher really showed what he could do at the professional level. From 1960 to 1961, he suited up for the Texans and made an instant impact.

He earned All-AFL honors in both seasons, a nod to his consistency and presence as a top-tier lineman. Though his professional career didn’t span a decade, Krisher left no doubt that he belonged among the league’s elite during his short but impressive AFL stint.

Off the field, his story was just as impressive. After retiring from football, Krisher dedicated much of his life to service and leadership.

He became a longtime member and executive within the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, carrying his competitive spirit into humanitarian work and mentoring roles. His influence extended far beyond the locker room or sideline.

In 2017, his home state gave him the recognition he earned through a lifetime of excellence, inducting him into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame.

From national titles in Norman to professional honors in Dallas, and eventually to a life spent giving back, Krisher’s legacy is one of uncommon excellence, on and off the field.
