A week ago, coming off a fantastic performance in the Dallas Cowboys’ wildly entertaining 40-40 tie with the Green Bay Packers, Dak Prescott was brilliant once again, completing 18 of 29 passes for 237 yards with four touchdowns and zero interceptions in leading America’s Team to a 37-22 victory over the New York Jets, also adding a season-high 28 rushing yards on seven carries.

And with the victory, Prescott now has 78 regular-season wins for his career, putting him into a tie with Tony Romo for the third-most in franchise history behind only Troy Aikman (94) and Roger Staubach (85).

Now in his 10th season, Dak has made 127 regular-season starts for Dallas, which is actually the exact same number Romo made during his 13-year career. And their records are spookily similar, as Prescott is 78-48-1, while Romo went 78-49. Each also owns a pair of playoff victories, so they’re genuinely tied through and through.

Dak knows what’s on the line this Sunday when the Cowboys take on the Carolina Panthers, but he couldn’t care less. When recently asked about passing Romo with his next win, Prescott came back with the greatest response any coach, teammate, or fan would want to hear, simply saying, “Never celebrated third place.”

Prescott has always been a humble guy, so his response wasn’t surprising. Individual accolades have never been a priority, as all the three-time Pro Bowler really wants is the thing that Romo could never do, and that’s to join Aikman and Staubach as a Super Bowl champion.

But even if Dak doesn’t get that done at any point before hanging up his cleats, there’s no denying that he’s easily one of the greatest quarterbacks Dallas has ever had. And not only will he soon surpass Romo on the franchise’s all-time wins list, he’s also soon take down Tony as the Cowboys’ all-time leader in passing yards and touchdown passes.

With 1,356 passing yards this season, Prescott now sits at 32,793 for his career, giving him the third-most in Dallas history. He needs just 150 to surpass Aikman for second, which he should easily get against Carolina, and 1,391 to pass Romo for first.

With 10 touchdown passes for the year, Dak sits in second on the Cowboys’ all-time list (which he has for quite some time) with 223 and needs 26 more to take the all-time lead from Romo, who tossed 248. This could prove a bit more challenging than the passing yards, but with the way Prescott has been playing, don’t be surprised if this mark falls as well before the campaign concludes.
