The San Francisco 49ers have endured their share of bad news over the past several weeks, suffering injuries throughout the roster. In the receiving corps, Ricky Pearsall missed San Francisco’s Week 5 overtime victory over the Los Angeles Rams after leaving San Francisco’s Week 4 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Ahead of their Week 6 matchup versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the 49ers were hopeful for good news regarding Pearsall’s status, but the bad news persisted. On Friday, the team officially ruled Pearsall out for the second consecutive game.
Pearsall ranks second on the team in receiving yards despite his absence, racking up 20 catches for 327 yards on 29 targets through his first four games of the season. At the time of his injury in Week 4, he racked up four catches for 46 yards, but was unable to return to action in the loss.
Joining him on the injury report is starting quarterback Brock Purdy. Purdy will miss his fourth game of the season with a toe injury.
Injuries continue to plague the 49ers despite a 4-1 start to the season, due in large part to the inspired play of backup quarterback Mac Jones and star running back Chrisitian McCaffrey. Here’s a fantasy outlook for the remainder of the 49ers offense with Pearsall set to miss another game:

Without Pearsall, veteran wideout Kendrick Bourne emerged with a significant performance in Week 5. With Jones under center, Bourne caught 10 of his 11 targets for 142 yards. Behind him, McCaffrey poured in notable production in the pass game, catching eight passes for 82 yards and a touchdown through the air.
Backup tight end also showed out in the extended absence of tight end George Kittle, racking up seven receptions for 41 yards with a touchdown of his own.
McCaffrey is an obvious must-start, but Jones and Bourne have posted solid fantasy production with Pearsall and Purdy sidelined. In three starts this season, Jones has eclipsed 20.0 fantasy points in two games. He’s finished in the top-10 among quarterbacks in each of his two 20.0-point games and has provided the 49ers offense with consistent quarterback play despite a flurry of injuries throughout the offense.
In the receiving corps, Bourne is an enticing injury handcuff for Pearsall. Bourne, who is rostered in roughly just 25% of leagues as of Week 6, should be under consideration for a waiver pickup ahead of a favorable matchup versus an inconsistent Buccaneers defense.
San Francisco enters the new week tied for the best record in the league despite the amount of injuries the team has endured to this point of the season.
