Moody Bluesโ€™ John Lodge Dies Suddenly Aged 82

John Lodge โ€” the bassist, co-lead vocalist, and songwriter of the legendary rock band The Moody Blues โ€” has passed away at the age of 82.

The Birmingham-born musicianโ€™s family announced the news today (Friday, 10th October), writing:

โ€œIt is with the deepest sadness that we share that John Lodge, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, and brother, has been suddenly and unexpectedly taken from us.

โ€œAs anyone who knew this big-hearted man would know, his greatest love was always for his wife Kirsten and their family, followed by his passion for music and his faith.

โ€œHe was never happier than when he was on stage โ€” just a โ€˜Singer in a Rock and Roll Band.โ€™ John loved performing with his band, his son-in-law Jon (vocalist with YES), and sharing his music with fans around the world. He also cherished working alongside his daughter Emily and son Kristian, and watching his grandson John-Henry dream of one day playing for Birmingham City.

โ€œJohn passed peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones and the sounds of The Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly. We will forever miss his love, smile, kindness, and unwavering support. Our hearts are broken, but we will move forward with the love he left us.

โ€œAs John would always say at the end of every show: Thank you for keeping the faith.

โ€œPlease understand that we will not be making further comments at this time. Instead, weโ€™d like to leave you with Johnโ€™s song โ€˜Whispering Angelsโ€™ as we take a moment to reflect on this incredible man who touched so many lives.โ€

Born in Erdington, Birmingham, on 20th July 1943, John Lodge joined The Moody Blues in 1966, two years after the bandโ€™s formation, replacing original bassist Clint Warwick

His first album with the group was the 1967 progressive rock masterpiece Days of Future Passed, featuring the bandโ€™s timeless hit โ€œNights in White Satin.โ€

Over his career with The Moody Blues, Lodge penned many of the bandโ€™s most beloved songs, including โ€œPeak Hour,โ€ โ€œ(Evening) Time to Get Away,โ€ โ€œRide My See-Saw,โ€ โ€œHouse of Four Doors,โ€ โ€œEyes of a Child,โ€ โ€œSend Me No Wine,โ€ โ€œTo Share Our Love,โ€ and โ€œCandle of Life.โ€

In addition to his work with the band, he also pursued a successful solo career, releasing three acclaimed studio albums.
