LS ‘Tennessee Mom Delivers Record-Breaking Triplets Weighing Nearly 20 Pounds Combined — “We Couldn’t Believe the Numbers!” LS
Knoxville, Tennessee — What began as a routine delivery at 34 weeks quickly turned into a record-setting moment at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. On March 16, 2016, new mom Kate Tipton welcomed three beautiful babies—Jack, Stella, and Luke—whose combined birth weight reached an incredible 19.6 pounds, the heaviest set of triplets ever delivered at the hospital.

Jack arrived first, weighing a solid 7 pounds 4 ounces. Then came Stella at 6 pounds 3 ounces, followed by little brother Luke at 5 pounds 9 ounces. “There was so much cheering and disbelief in the room they actually weighed Jack twice,” Tipton laughed.
Doctors and nurses at UT Medical Center were stunned. Most triplets are born much earlier and weigh significantly less—so to see all three babies so healthy and robust was nothing short of remarkable. “It’s not something you see every day,” one of the attending physicians shared. “They truly made history here.”
According to Guinness World Records, the heaviest set of triplets ever born—delivered in California in 2004—had a combined weight of 22 pounds. The Tipton trio missed that global mark by just 2.4 pounds, but still set a new record for the hospital and possibly one of the heaviest sets in state history.
Now at home in Knoxville, Kate and her husband say life is wonderfully chaotic. “It’s triple the diapers, triple the bottles, and triple the love,” she said with a smile. “We’re exhausted—but our hearts are so full.” ❤️
