Just a few days ago, a small shelter on the outskirts of Nashville sent out its last cry for help. Its maintenance funds were depleted, medical bills and food for dozens of abandoned dogs were piling up, and in just 48 hours, all the dogs and cats there would be euthanized.
No one expected Luke Bryan to answer that call for help.
He arrived quietly, without cameras, without media, with just a few close friends. As he walked through the cold metal cages, his eyes fell on an 11-year-old Labrador mix named Buddy — abandoned, frail, and nearly hopeless.
“He looked at me, and I knew — I couldn’t leave without taking him home,” Luke shared in a brief interview afterward.
Luke not only adopted Buddy, but also paid off the shelter’s entire debt, enough to keep them going for at least six more months. The shelter owner burst into tears when he heard the news: “I couldn’t believe it. We were about to lose everything, and then he just magically came in.”
Buddy now has a new home on Luke and Caroline Boyer’s farm. He has full medical care, a large yard to run around in, and — as Luke puts it — “is loved every day.”
