d+ WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre Joins Chad Stahelski’s Highlander Reboot as Henry Cavill’s Brother

Amazon MGM Studios’ United Artists is bringing fresh energy to its long-anticipated Highlander reboot, and it just added a powerful new name to the cast. WWE superstar Drew McIntyre has officially signed on to play Angus MacLeod, the brother of Henry Cavill’s character, Connor MacLeod. The film is directed by John Wick helmer Chad Stahelski, promising high-intensity action and immersive swordplay.

A Legendary Story Reborn

The new film draws inspiration from the beloved 1986 original, which followed immortal warriors battling through centuries of history for the fabled “Prize.” That cult classic, directed by Russell Mulcahy and starring Christopher Lambert, spawned several sequels and a long-running television series starring Adrian Paul. Screenwriter Michael Finch is penning this modern reimagining, aiming to honor the mythology while giving it a contemporary cinematic scale.

The cast lineup is stacked with big names beyond Cavill and McIntyre. Russell Crowe, Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Max Zhang, and Dave Bautista are all confirmed to appear, bringing a mix of dramatic weight and action credibility.

Production Update

The project entered pre-production earlier this month but temporarily paused when Cavill suffered an injury during training. Filming is now expected to begin in early 2026, giving the team time to fine-tune the choreography and visual design that Stahelski’s films are known for.

Behind the scenes, the film is being produced by Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt for United Artists, alongside Neal H. Moritz, Stahelski’s 87Eleven Entertainment, and Josh Davis of Davis Panzer Productions. Louise Rosner is also on board, while Amazon MGM has secured full rights to the 1986 original with potential plans for a companion series. Lionsgate, which previously developed Highlander projects, remains involved.

Drew McIntyre’s Big-Screen Rise

For McIntyre, this role is a milestone. Known to wrestling fans as a two-time WWE Champion and the winner of the 2020 Royal Rumble, the Scottish athlete has built a reputation for powerful performances in and out of the ring. Highlander will reunite him with Stahelski’s famed 87Eleven stunt team and with fellow former wrestler Dave Bautista, whom he worked alongside in Lionsgate’s action film The Killer’s Game.

McIntyre’s casting signals an exciting shift for the franchise — bringing in a performer who blends physicality with charisma, perfect for the Highlander’s timeless battle of immortals.
