SD. Donald Trump Returned to Hospital for More Heart Tests 3 Months After Diagnosis, Physician Reveals

PRESIDENT TRUMP’S LATEST PHYSICAL EXAM SHOWS “EXCEPTIONAL” RESULTS — DOCTOR SAYS HIS HEART AGE IS 14 YEARS YOUNGER THAN HIS OWN

President Donald J. Trump, 79, has once again made headlines—this time for his latest health update. A newly released summary from the White House physician reports that the former president underwent an extensive medical evaluation at Walter Reed Medical Center on Friday, October 10, revealing results that his doctor called “exceptional.”

According to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, Trump traveled to Walter Reed both to deliver remarks to U.S. troops and to undergo what she described as a “routine yearly check-up.” The visit raised some eyebrows, as Trump had previously announced that he had already completed his annual physical earlier this year.

A Comprehensive Health Review

In a statement shared with PEOPLE, Dr. Sean Barbabella, the president’s physician, said the visit was “part of his ongoing health maintenance plan,” and included lab testing, advanced imaging, and preventive health assessments.

Dr. Barbabella noted that the additional testing was aimed at ensuring “optimal cardiovascular health and continued wellness.” Though he declined to specify the details of the imaging or preventive measures, he emphasized that Trump’s laboratory results were “exceptional,” and that his cardiac (heart) age is approximately 14 years younger than his actual age.

For context, the Heart Foundation defines “cardiac age” as an estimate of how healthy a person’s cardiovascular system is compared to the average person of their chronological age — a younger cardiac age typically indicates lower risk of heart disease or stroke.

Trump also received updated influenza and COVID-19 vaccines during the visit, marking a continuation of his preventive care measures.

Follow-Up on Earlier Health Concerns

This latest check-up comes just months after Trump made an unplanned visit to the doctor in July, following reports of swelling in his lower legs amid a politically charged month for the administration.

At the time, Dr. Barbabella issued a note explaining that Trump had been “thoroughly examined” and diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) — a condition that affects blood flow in the legs. He described it as “benign and common, particularly in individuals over the age of 70.

The Cleveland Clinic explains that CVI occurs when the veins in the legs are damaged, making it harder for blood to return to the heart. The result is blood pooling in the lower limbs, causing swelling and increased vein pressure.

Despite that diagnosis, Dr. Barbabella assured the public at the time that “the president remains in excellent health.”

An Ongoing Commitment to Health

Friday’s report reinforces that assessment, painting a picture of a president committed to regular and thorough medical evaluation. With his cardiovascular tests showing strong results and his overall wellness described as “exceptional,” Trump’s medical team appears confident in his condition heading into the next phase of his political and public life.

As Dr. Barbabella concluded in his statement:

“The President continues to maintain excellent overall health and remains fully capable of carrying out his duties without restriction.”
