This season, she is fighting harder than ever to get the best singers possible on her team to get her second win as a coach. The Blind Auditions wrapped up on October 7th after all four coaches filled their teams with 12 singers each. The next round is the Battle Rounds, where they pair up two singers to duet on a song together and then the coaches have to pick one singer to win and advance to the Knockout Rounds.

During the Battle Rounds, the coaches choose a special advisor to help them coach their team. This year, some familiar faces were brought back as two former coaches were chosen as Battles Advisors.

Snoop Dogg selected Lizzo as his advisor, while Horan chose Lewis Capaldi. Michael Bublé enlisted in the help of Kelsea Ballerini, who coached during Season 27, and McEntire chose former Voice coach Nick Jonas.

Each coach chose someone they have some history or a great friendship with, but some might be confused at McEntire’s choice of Nick Jonas. But, it turns out, they’ve actually known each other the longest out of any of the coaches and their advisors.

Reba and Nick Have Known Each Other Since 2001

Years ago, in 2015, McEntire shared a photo of herself, Jonas, and Boy George at the iHeartRadio Awards. In the post, the “Fancy” singer shared a fun fact that we had no idea about! She and Jonas worked together on the Broadway musical Annie Get Your Gun.

Even though that fact has been revealed before, it surprised us when McEntire and Jonas recreated a photo they took from their time together on Annie Get Your Gun on The Voice set.

Our favorite comment on the post was someone writing, “She really does love her kids and never stops!” in reference to her song “I’m A Survivor,” which was the Reba show theme song.

While working together on The Voice, McEntire and Jonas spoke to Entertainment Tonight‘s Cassie DiLaura about working together 24 years ago. Jonas got his start in entertainment doing Broadway musicals including roles as Gavroche in Les Misérables, Chip in Beauty and the Beast, Tiny Tim in A Christmas Story, and Little Jake in Annie Get Your Gun.

During the interview with Entertainment Tonight, Jonas revealed to McEntire that Annie Get Your Gun was his first-ever Broadway show, and McEntire revealed it was her first-ever play! McEntire portrayed sharp shooter Annie Oakley, while Jonas played her little brother, Little Jake.

“I remember getting the call that I got the job and that I’d be working with Reba McEntire,” he said. “I grew up in a home where Reba’s music was played all the time, and being in that experience, it’s sort of a vortex because everyone and their mom wanted to come see Reba on Broadway, and so each night we’d have a different very famous person backstage that I got to meet. So I got residual meet and greets because of Reba!”

Jonas continued, “When I got the call to come to this with her, I was over the moon. It’s a full circle thing for me. We’ve seen each other a few times over the years but having the chance tonight to get to coach these artists and just get to catch up was really special.”

In between coaching her team together, McEntire said she and Jonas talked a lot about their time in New York together, all the work they put into it, and all the fun they had, but also the lessons they learned from their time on Annie Get Your Gun. McEntire also called it the hardest job she’s ever had.

“Working cattle wasn’t nearly as hard as doing Broadway,” the country legend said of her experience. “That’s the hardest job I’ve ever had in my life.”

DiLaura asked McEntire, “Why Nick,” and Jonas quickly joked, “Joe wasn’t available.” Of course, he’s talking about his brother and Jonas Brothers bandmate Joe Jonas.
