QL.“An outstanding performance? Really?Patrick Mahomes was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week again. There’s no denying his talent, but is this a fair choice, or is it just ‘Mahomes bias’? Many other QBs had equally explosive weeks, yet they were not mentioned. Is this award becoming ‘personal’ to someone?”

An Outstanding Performance? Really? 🤔
Patrick Mahomes is honored again, but is it fair?

Every week during the NFL season, the League announces the title “AFC Offensive Player of the Week” – a form of recognition for the best individual performances. And this week, the familiar name Patrick Mahomes appeared once again. There is no denying that Mahomes is one of the most talented quarterbacks in history, the heart of the Kansas City Chiefs and always brings spectacular moments. But the question is: Is this a fair choice, or is it just “Mahomes bias” – bias for the biggest star in the league?

Mahomes – An undeniable monument

No one can deny that Mahomes has created his own “era” in the NFL. He has won 2 Super Bowls, been honored MVP many times, and become the face of the brand of the league. In every game, even when the Chiefs are not at their best, Mahomes still knows how to shine with his “unbelievable” throws, excellent reading of the game, and especially his leadership style.

Therefore, when his name appears on the honor roll, many people take it for granted. A bit of “brand effect” is understandable – because Mahomes is not only a player, but also an icon.

But what about the others?

This week, many other QBs also had equally explosive performances:

A few young talents scored more touchdowns than Mahomes.

Some other QBs achieved impressive passer ratings, even better.

Many players playing on teams that do not receive much media attention have “burned” themselves out, but rarely entered the spotlight.

When compared on paper, sometimes these names deserve more recognition. But in the end, they “kept quiet”, while Mahomes continued to dominate the individual award rankings.

Is the award becoming “personalized”?

The problem is not only the achievements, but also the voting method. When a player like Mahomes is constantly favored, it is easy for public opinion to question:

Are the organizers choosing based on emotions rather than data?

Does a big name make the decision easier, because it ensures media attraction?

And more importantly: does this award still reflect “fairness” in a competitive week?

If this situation continues, “AFC Offensive Player of the Week” is at risk of being seen as a personalized award, reserved for familiar faces instead of honoring the most deserving person.

Conclusion: Honor or bias?

Patrick Mahomes is clearly a football genius, one of the greatest QBs of all time. But the fact that he keeps getting picked, despite other players having stellar weeks, makes people wonder:

Is this really fair recognition?

Or are we witnessing a phenomenon of “Mahomes bias” – where all the spotlight is on the same person?

The award was originally created to encourage and honor all outstanding individuals. Hopefully, in the future, the honor roll will truly reflect the diversity and fierce competition of the NFL – not just a place to repeat familiar names.
