Jeff Bridges has brought The Big Lebowski back to life on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to share his reaction to the current state of the American political climate.
Taking to the popular show to promote his new movie, Tron: Ares, Bridges complied with a request made by the host of the show. Kimmel said, “We are in such a troubled time, I think, it’s a good way to say it. People are getting crazier every day, and I wonder if you could perhaps summon The Dude to share some words of wisdom tonight.”
Handing over the sunglasses, iconic cardigan, and a White Russian cocktail, Bridges was set to delve back into the protagonist from the 1998 classic.
“Hey world, The Dude here,” Bridges said. “So, uh, yeah, man. Can we just all calm the fuck down? I mean, c’mon. I’m talking about, you know, all the wars, the fighting, the cancelling. I mean, let’s just chill out, man. C’mon, tone it down.”
He continued, “We’re, like, at what? A nine? We ought to be at zero. Or zero and a half at max. Right, Guillermo?”
The iconic character then turned his attention to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which Trump has used to conduct raids, detain individuals, and operate immigration facilities at an alarming rate. “ICE??” Bridges’ Dude said. “Let’s get ICE off our streets and into our beverages, man.”
He then quoted his own character, musing, “This aggression will not stand. Right?” To which Kimmy Kimmel agreed, “Right.”
The Dude finished, “So let’s just abide. Abide together. Yes, we can do this. Now, that’s just, like, my opinion, but it’s a good one, don’t you think, Jimmy?”
The late-night show was caught in the middle of the political turmoil in America recently, after an indefinite suspension led to Kimmel’s show being off-air for six consecutive days.
