Phxt Trump sparks laughter after jokingly calling Canada’s Prime Minister “the President.”

When Canada’s Prime Minister pointed out that Mr. Trump had mistakenly called him “the President,” Trump laughed and replied, “At least I didn’t call you the Governor.”

U.S. President Donald Trump mentioned Canada during his speech thanking around 30 world leaders and representatives gathered in Egypt on October 13 for the signing of a joint declaration on Gaza. However, he mistakenly referred to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s title — and appeared not to realize the slip.

“Today we also have the leader of Canada with us. That’s wonderful. The President of Canada called me earlier, asking if this event was important — though he clearly knew how significant this agreement is. Where is the Canadian leader, by the way? Where are you?” Trump said.

After the speech, Mr. Carney approached Trump to shake hands, and their brief exchange was caught on a live microphone.

“Thanks for the promotion to President,” Carney joked.

Trump, 79, smiled and patted Carney on the shoulder. “Oh, did I say that?” the U.S. President replied with a laugh, adding, “At least I didn’t call you the Governor.”

Since returning to the White House in January, President Trump has repeatedly — and publicly — called for Canada to merge with the United States as its 51st state. He brought it up again during a meeting with Carney at the White House on October 7, prompting the Canadian Prime Minister to laugh awkwardly and reply, “That’s not exactly what I had in mind.”
