Mtp.BREAKING SEAHAWKS SHOCKER! What was supposed to be a blockbuster move has turned into a nightmare — DeMarcus Lawrence, once a beloved Cowboys Pro Bowler, is looking like a $42 million gamble gone wrong in Seattle.
Say what you will about Jerry Jones, but he often decides to move on from veteran stars at the right time (with one recent obvious exception). DeMarco Murray, Ezekiel Elliot, and Dez Bryant all flamed out soon after they left the Dallas Cowboys.

About a month into the 2025 season, DeMarcus Lawrence looks like the newest addition to that list. The edge defender was a fan favorite in Dallas, but his production dipped in his last few seasons with the team. He’s already had a slow start to his time with the Seattle Seahawks after signing a massive contract with them in free agency.
The Seahawks are slowly coming to the realization that he isn’t the superstar edge rusher they paid for.
Seahawks are learning what Cowboys knew about DeMarcus Lawrence
Once upon a time, DeMarcus Lawrence was a dominant force for the Cowboys’ defensive front. He posted an All-Pro selection, multiple Pro Bowls, and a couple of double-digit sack seasons during his time in Dallas. He was the rare combination of an elite run defender and pass rusher.
But that was almost a decade and a few injuries ago. Now, the 33-year-old is far from the threat that he used to be. After signing him to a steep contract this offseason, the Seahawks are quickly finding out that he can’t lead a defense like he once could.
Seattle inked a three-year deal worth up to $42 million with Lawrence after his contract with the Cowboys expired. It was a hefty price for a player who had totaled just 16 sacks over the previous four seasons, but the Deahawks hoped he could be the ace off the edge they had been missing.
Through four games, he has just 12 total tackles and no sacks. He’s struggling to get after the quarterback, with just one QB hit so far this season. He’s been an effective run defender, but his limited skill set is hurting the Seahawks in key moments.
To make matters worse, he’s already struggling to stay healthy. He suffered a thigh injury early in Seattle’s Thursday night win over the Arizona Cardinals. While the severity of the injury is currently unclear, it could be a real setback for a player late in his career.
The Seahawks have been able to get by so far without major contributions from the veteran, but the money they’ve already committed to him could hurt the team for years to come.
