While Dallas Cowboys receiver George Pickens has been leaping to new heights, he’s also putting up monster numbers. And here’s what Jerry Jones said about a potential contract extension for Pickens.
Jones said Pickens has done well, according to a post on X by Jon Machota.
“We’ll weigh that,” Jones said. “We knew full well that if things really went like we want them to go, certainly we need to think about having some room available if we’re going to pay a second receiver at that level.”
This is weird talk from a man who wouldn’t pay arguably the best defensive player in the game. And Jones has watched his defense suffer into statistically one of the two worst defenses in the league. And the 2-3-1 record reflects those defensive shortcomings.
Remember, the Cowboys had Micah Parsons and Pickens before sending the former to Green Bay.

Jones said Pickens has done everything the team has asked, and then some.
“He is doing more than we did expect, or that we could have expected,” Jones said. “And what’s really special is he’s a real plus to have around the team. He’s a real plus around his teammates. He’s a great plus around those coaches. Those coaches really think highly of him.
“He’s not only doing it on the field, he’s doing it as a part of the team concept. That’s very important, and in his particular case, should be noted.”
But still, the team faces a decision at the end of the year, according to NBC Sports.
“We are always looking at what we can do to basically financially improve where we are,” Jones said. “Now, you don’t financially improve without getting what you paid for. That’s a misnomer. You have to have the talent. You have to have the players, and I know you say, ‘Well, duh, that was assumed in the question.’ Well, the point is that we’ll look carefully at what we’re doing financially, look carefully at what we do there with George. And I can’t tell you how proud I am personally for George because he is absolutely as exciting as he’s been on the field for us.”
